For testing a wide range of analogue altimeters in a variety of aircraft...

The Atlantis ARA-552 analogue radio altimeter test set facilitates flight-line testing of aircraft autoland systems, ground proximity warning systems, and installed altimeter systems. Together with the ARA-552 Hand Held Controller, it provides sophisticated capabilities for testing a wide range of analogue altimeters in a variety of aircraft.

ARA-552

The ARA-552 test set provides simulated aircraft radio altitude information. Using operator-defined parameters such as start altitude, stop altitude, and vertical speed, the ARA-552 test set defines a radio altitude ramp. This information, along with error and fault control information, is transmitted through a cable adapter to up to three aircraft altimeters. The three-part sequence accurately simulates descent, approach, flare, and touchdown. The ARA-552 test set may be used whenever active control of the radio altitude bus is a test requirement.

The following accessories are available:

  • Various interface cables to support a wide variety of aircraft altimeters:
    • Collins 860F-1/4 Cable - P/N: 110-0440-202
    • Collins ALT-50/55 Cable - P/N: 110-0440-205
    • Bendix ALA-51 Cable - P/N: 110-0440-203
    • Bendix ALA-52 System 1 - P/N: 110-0440-206-01
    • Bendix ALA-52 System 2 - P/N: 110-0440-206-02
    • Bendix ALA-52 System 3 - P/N: 110-0440-206-03
    • Honeywell HG7502BC05 - P/N: 110-0440-207

If the cable you require is not on the above list, contact the Test Equipment Department to discuss designing and manufacturing a cable specific for your needs.

  • DC altitude board
  • Relay board.

With DC output and relay simulation options, the ARA-552 test set can simulate an entire altimeter system for aircraft where the actual altimeter has been removed. For relay simulation, three output channels are provided, each generating FLAG, A/P WARN, and six ALTITUDE TRIP relays to simulate altimeter functions. Four selectable sets of trip altitude points are available.

The ARA-552 test set is housed in a portable, weather-resistant case. It can be powered from any standard AC source (100/240V, 50/60 Hz, 3A) or from an optional internal battery. The detachable lower portion of the case houses the electronics and the upper half provides storage space for cables, manuals, and the hand-held controller. The printed circuit assemblies are designed for convenient removal and replacement using standard electronic shop tools.
